Bad Magic Summer Camp × Allaway
The Client
Bad Magic Productions is the comedy brand behind the Bad Magic Summer Camp — a multi-day, ticketed live comedy festival staged at The Acres. Built around the Bad Magic with Pauly Shore podcast and its extended creative universe, it brings together stand-up, improv, drag, meet-and-greets, and merch in a format that feels nothing like a traditional comedy show.
The premise is simple and the execution is anything but: sell 500 tickets, put the audience inside a long weekend of programming on a 400-acre private campus, and let the talent and the crowd do the rest. The result is a room where fans and performers actually share the same experience — sold out before most people knew it existed.
Bad Magic came to Allaway because building a festival at that scale in that market requires more than a production company — it requires a partner who understands how atmosphere becomes brand equity. From venue logistics and licensing through to theme design, sponsor activations, and the on-site media team capturing 125+ reels, Allaway built the infrastructure around the talent so the talent could focus on the show.
The Brief
What they
asked for
Turn a digital community into a real one — through real people, real places, and a live podcast their audience could be part of.
Bad Magic came to Allaway with a clear vision: take the audience that had been showing up every week in their earbuds and give them a place to show up in person. They wanted a live podcast experience their community could attend — face to face with the hosts, inside an elevated summer camp setting that felt nothing like a conventional event. The brief was as much about brand deepening as it was about logistics: create the moment that turns a listener into a lifer. Allaway delivered that in 2023, returned with a stronger program in 2025, and refined it again in 2026 — a repeatable event format that gives new attendees the classic camp experience while keeping it fresh enough to bring returning fans back every time.
The Approach
Bad Magic had the audience, the talent, and the energy — what they needed was a production partner who could find the right venue and build a 3-day event program worthy of it. Allaway sourced a new location capable of hosting the full scope of the festival: live comedy, drag performances, meet-and-greets, merch, and a multi-day guest experience that other summer camp operators simply weren’t equipped to deliver. We handled every operational layer so the Bad Magic team could focus entirely on their community and their show.
Revenue Innovation
Beyond the festival program, Allaway helped Bad Magic map out a Meet & Greet as a premium ticket add-on — giving the community a direct, intimate way to engage with the podcasters they’d been listening to for years. For fans, it was the moment they’d been waiting for. For Bad Magic, it was a new revenue stream built into the event architecture without disrupting the main program flow. A small addition with a significant return — and a model that’s replicable across every future event.
Production Design
Allaway engineered and delivered a full live podcast production set from the ground up — custom staging, professional IT/AV infrastructure, broadcast-grade audio, rigging, pipe and drape, atmospheric smoke machines, and a curated prop build that transformed the venue into a studio worthy of the show. In front of it: 500+ seated guests, the Bad Magic community in the room, watching their favorite podcasters record a live episode in real time. The kind of production moment that becomes a story people tell for years.
